APARIQ, FOLSOM POINT, AND 1ST WAVE MARKETING LINK CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY PROVIDERS WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
February 25, 2003
(Gaithersburg, MD) - Recognizing the growing need for applying cutting-edge technology to the emerging problems facing the federal government in homeland security, national defense, and information management, APARIQ, Inc., Folsom Point, Inc., and 1st Wave Marketing, Inc., today announced an alliance to help connect high-tech enterprises with government agencies.
"Our goal is to help government agencies think 'and act outside the box'," said Gil Lucas, CEO of APARIQ. "As a former venture capitalist, I know that there is a tremendous amount of untapped entrepreneurial skill and energy that could be used to help the government," said Lucas. "But new ventures do not have the patience or the know-how to pursue this business --- leaving the government with no choice but to tap into products and services solely from large companies," Lucas added.
Applying innovations of the information technology (IT) sector to the new problems facing the federal government is similar to the organizational challenges of fostering innovation within established enterprises. In private industry, this problem has spawned a huge venture capital industry that funds technology to solve today's and tomorrow's problems. Typically, however, these new technologies find their way into the private sector first, and into the public sector years later.
Moreover, while the government possesses huge buying power, its purchases are accompanied by federal acquisition regulations and long purchasing cycles. This results in a mismatch for the cash-starved, high-tech companies that can offer the very IT innovation needed by the federal government.
APARIQ, a government consulting services firm, has forged the alliance with Folsom Point and 1st Wave Marketing, two high-technology marketing firms located in Silicon Mountain (Colorado) and Silicon Valley, respectively. Both regions are hotbeds of venture-funded IT firms. The service, to be to be introduced in the summer of 2003, will provide faster, more effective vendor-agency information exchange than traditional avenues such as formal solicitations, industry trade shows, or selling organizations. The service will involve a web-based knowledge management system that provides intelligent matchmaking while safeguarding intellectual property, addressing common concerns of both vendors and government organizations.
"We are excited to be part of this collaborative solution," said Nicky Lee, CEO of Folsom Point, Inc. "Our goal is to make it easier for small technology firms to start doing business with the government. The federal government is a world unto itself, with unique processes, acronyms, and organizational structures. Since we understand the government and technology sectors, we can answer the needs of both."
"There are a huge number of commercially available technologies that can be brought to bear on current security, privacy, and data collection issues. However, if the government is to benefit from these technologies, companies need proper support to establish relationships with the decision-makers in Washington, D.C.," said Larry Kubo, CEO of 1st Wave Marketing. "Between our three firms, we have the ability to assist leading-edge IT businesses throughout the country."
