FOLSOM POINT PARTICIPATES IN CU BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION
Preliminary Judging Provides Real World Experience for Students
April 25, 2002
(Boulder, CO) - Cathy Kramer, President of Folsom Point, Inc., served as one of seven judges reviewing the business plans and presentations of CU's undergraduate business plan teams. Participating on a panel of industry veterans, Kramer and her critiquing colleagues assessed the financial, marketing, sales, and operational viability of several CU business plans.
"The business plan competition gives students a taste of the real world. So many business owners have an idea, but ideas are relatively easy to conceive. The planning process really requires that you think about every facet of your business. It's the nuts and bolts - what's feasible, what's not, how much it will cost, how you'll sell and distribute, how you'll market your product or service," said Kramer. "Through the competition, students will learn that it takes more than planning to build a successful business. It requires persistence, and passion for what you're doing."
The CU students will spend the next few weeks revising and polishing their presentations in preparation for the final competition to be held on May 1. The spring undergraduate business plan competition is sponsored by Ray and Dottie Joyce and hosted by the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship and the Leeds School of Business. Over a dozen teams will compete for cash prizes.
